Our story

fibe was founded in 2022 at Imperial College London out of a final year design engineering project. The founders shared a belief that new materials are one of the most effective ways to reduce the environmental impact of engineering. They can shift products, industries and whole societies.

Why fashion?

No industry needs that shift more than fashion, which still stands as one of the world's largest consumers of natural resources. Cotton alone uses 2.5% of the world's arable land (an area the size of Germany!) and over 215 trillion litres of fresh water. With more changeable weather, crops like cotton become harder to rely on. Offering alternatives builds supply chain resilience.

Where we began

We started with potato waste. Potato stems left after harvest are one of the world's largest untapped agricultural feedstocks. And we proved we could get textile fibre from it. In doing so we proved something bigger: that the process worked on a crop nobody had ever tried to make fibre from.

Since then we have expanded into other agricultural residue categories.

The technology transfers.

That's the point of it.
